DIY Halloween Costumes for Kids

Halloween is just around the corner and if you’re anything like me, you tend to do things last-minute. Halloween just happens to be my son’s favorite holiday. Why? Well, if you ask him he’ll tell you that he gets to take a long walk to see all the Halloween decorations and get lots of candy. He’s always been accustomed to liking “scary” things like ghosts, vampires, and haunted houses. When he gets his YouTube time, he’s always gravitating toward Halloween-themed videos and songs.

This year, he wanted to be Optimus Prime, his favorite character and super-hero. Naturally, as a DIY lover, I wanted a challenge to make his costume myself. I found a YouTube video floating around about a transforming Optimus Prime. I was super excited for the challenge. When I made his chest-piece last week, he didn’t like how the cardboard felt and also didn’t like the fact that he wouldn’t be able to move well, sit, and run in it so he didn’t want me to make it. I was saddened that I wouldn’t have the challenge but I wasn’t going to waste time and energy if he wasn’t going to wear it. We made a purchase instead.

I planned on showing you exactly how I put the costume together but instead, I’ve put together a round-up of pretty awesome DIY Halloween Costumes for Kids that other mamas have done. Check them out below!

I also made a really awesome roller derby waitress costume in high school. For my kids, my oldest was a black cat last year and my youngest was Charlie Brown. I didn’t have to buy a thing other than a fabric marker to make them.

    1. It’s so hard to get super creative for babies that young. They get so hot so easily so draping them in fabric may not be such a great idea lol.

  3. OMG! I love the Flinestones costumes! Those are adorable. We don’t celebrate Halloween, but when my daughter has to dress up, I just throw on one of her princess dress up dresses. Lol Easy!

    1. The Flinestones are super cute! You are the second person I know that doesn’t celebrate Halloween. The other person didn’t celebrate for religious reasons.

    1. I’m sure he would, it’s awesome! I really wanted to make my son one this year but he did not like the cardboard feeling. LOL
