My Hospital Bag Checklist (from a third-time Mama)
I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant and I cannot believe I’ll soon be a mom of 3 boys! The time has gone by so fast and I’ve been behind on preparing for this baby. Between my 4-year-old starting preschool and my 2-year-old being, well, a 2-year-old, it’s been life in the fast lane. Making a hospital bag checklist has been the last thing on my mind but as time approaches delivery, I knew I needed to get it done.
When I packed my hospital bag the first time around, I was completely over-prepared . I literally brought anything I thought I would need. I labored for 18 hours with Optimus and spent an hour or two in the labor room after he was born. Then when I transferred from the labor room to a mom/baby room, I realized I brought too many things. My parents and husband had to lug suitcases and random things to my other room which was much smaller.
When I packed my hospital bag the second time around, I was slightly under-prepared . I woke up to contractions at 6am and Bumblebee was born by c-section at 9am. I wasn’t prepared for a c-section as far as my hospital bag. My parents and husband would bring me things from home that I either forgot or things that I didn’t realize I needed.
This time around, I’ll have it just right.
“If her kids are that close together and she wants a shower, she is selfish, she has everything already so why does she need a shower?”
As I was looking up ideas for having a third baby shower (sprinkle) for baby number three, 80% of the comments I read were full of judgement and negativity. I never realized that it was so taboo or “not good etiquette” to have a third baby shower. I’m almost 30 weeks pregnant and it’s that time to start thinking about how I want to celebrate my third baby. Naturally, you celebrate with a baby shower. But having THIRD baby shower?
Stop Wasting Money
Wasting money is not something the average American wants to do. But as consumers and prey to materialism, it’s the easiest to do when you don’t pay attention. Previously, I mentioned the first step to get out of debt is to save $1000 as fast as you can. In order to save, you’ll need to examine your spending habits and stop all unnecessary spending.
“I’ve already gotten rid of a lot”
Get rid of more.
This means that you need to dig down into your finances and find all the money sucking culprits to eliminate them.
Most things that are wasting money are obvious while others may not be.
I’ve put a list of the most common ways that people waste their money. Start by cutting out these expenses and see how much you can save. $7 here and there can REALLY add up and turn into and pretty good chunk of change to throw into that emergency fund so you can start slaying that debt.
Let me clear a few things before you say “did she really just say that?” Breastfeeding is an extremely personal decision. What you feel is the best choice for you and your child is way more important than trying to keep up with the social norm or in this case, going against the social norm. While we all should know that “breast is best”, there are LOTS of times when it just doesn’t work out, and that’s okay. I am not here to push you into extended breastfeeding, nor judge you if you chose not to. I am simply here to provide support, facts, humor and encouragement in your nursing journey.
